Management of Sinusitis and Periimplantitis | LIVE Surgery

This advanced webinar from the AAID Study Club provides a comprehensive and evidence-based overview of the surgical management of peri-implantitis and odontogenic maxillary sinusitis, two interrelated clinical challenges frequently encountered in implant dentistry, particularly in the posterior maxilla.

This coexistence of peri-implantitis and maxillary sinusitis necessitates meticulous diagnostic evaluation and evidence-based approach tailored to the severity of disease and anatomical considerations. The KEY TAKE AWAY is Elimination of infection must precede any implant-related intervention, and procedures such as sinus augmentation are contraindicated in the presence of active sinus disease.

In this exclusively recorded surgical session we present the Surgical management of an asymptomatic peri-implantitis case with 12,13 initiated by a peri-radicular infection from 14. The treatment plan included atraumatic extraction of 14, degranulating the region and removal of cystic fluid from the sinus followed by regenerative procedures utilizing bone grafts and barrier membranes guided by defect morphology. Adjunctive therapies, including Er-YAG laser-assisted decontamination and locally delivered antimicrobials, has further enhanced the clinical outcomes.

This insightful session aims to equip the attendees with refined and an apt clinical understanding of surgical decision-making and technique selection in the management of peri-implant and sinus-related pathologies, enhancing both therapeutic predictability and long-term implant success.
